LEARN MODO / PRACTICAL GUIDE

Install MODO and sign in

Release-dependentReviewed 2026-10-20
A guide to the current beta, not a release announcement.

These instructions are reviewed against the app source. Final-installer walkthroughs are still pending. Check platform availability and requirements before installing. Windows is an updates list, outside the 1,000 beta places.

Current registration policy: Windows requests join a separate updates list and cannot activate MODO. macOS and Linux beta requests reserve at most one place per email; a reserved place is not a downloadable release. Live release status →

The intended alpha flow is: register your email, receive the installer for your operating system, install MODO, and verify the same email with a sign-in link. After activation, you can continue working offline.

Installer availability: a Mac candidate has been signed and notarized, and the live sign-in service has been tested. The updated installer still needs its final checks before handoff; installer download emails remain queued until a verified download is available. No download link is published by this guide. MODO QA and MODO Preview are internal builds, not the installer for testers.

Before installing

Use the installer supplied through the official MODO invitation or download channel when it is available. Check its version and supported operating system. The initial test audience is Mac Apple Silicon; do not assume a Windows or Intel build is validated because the application has cross-platform source.

The beta registration service is designed to reserve at most 1,000 email addresses. Installing a copied installer does not reserve a place or authorize a different email.

Install on Mac when the release is available

  1. Open the supplied .dmg.
  2. Drag MODO into Applications.
  3. Eject the disk image and open MODO from Applications.
  4. Let the compact animated opening finish, or choose Skip intro. It shows the version and creator, Gianluca Boccia.
  5. On the access screen, enter Your beta email, using the address registered for the beta.
  6. Choose Send sign-in link and open the email on this computer. Check Spam or Junk if you do not see it; installer emails can also land there.
  7. Follow the email link, choose Confirm sign-in, then Open MODO. Allow your browser to open the installed app if prompted. Once signed in, you can close the browser tab.

If the operating system rejects the package or the verified publisher differs from the release instructions, stop and contact the release owner. Removing quarantine or disabling Gatekeeper is not part of installation.

Check access and offline use

Once Welcome appears, create a small project, finish an edit and wait for Saved locally. Quit normally. Disconnect from the network and reopen MODO and that project: your activation and saved work should still be available.

Do not use Sign out as a way to close the app. Signing out removes the local activation and requires online verification again. A new computer also needs its own activation.

  • Check the email spelling and spam folder; request a fresh link instead of reusing an expired or used one.
  • Use Trouble signing in? for the recovery instructions shown by the build.
  • Keep MODO installed on the computer where you follow the link.
  • An unavailable registration or email service cannot be repaired by reinstalling the app. Ask the release owner to check the service.
  • Do not share sign-in links or activation files.
