Save versions in your personal cloud

MODO writes versioned .modo snapshots into a local folder synchronized by your cloud provider's desktop client. Your provider handles the account, upload, sharing permissions and transfer to another device.

Connect a history folder

  1. Set up the cloud provider's desktop app and make the intended folder available locally.
  2. Open File → Personal cloud & versions….
  3. Under This project, choose Create new history or connect an existing history for this project.
  4. Select the Cloud folder path.
  5. Review the destination and included content, then confirm.
  6. Enter a Version name and choose Save version.

The history is a .modo-cloud folder. Share the whole folder through your provider if someone else needs its versions. The copied local path is not a public link or an invitation.

Understand the status

Version saved to folder means the local write succeeded. Check the cloud provider separately to see whether the transfer has finished.

Save new versions automatically is optional. It saves changed project snapshots periodically while this local copy is open; it does not promise continuous background upload when the app is closed.

The history includes registered assets and CMS drafts, but not your credentials, application preferences or arbitrary files beside the project.

Open from another computer

Wait for the provider to finish syncing and make the history available offline there. Use Open shared to select the .modo-cloud folder and open a version as a local copy.

The opened copy does not automatically enable shared autosaving. Confirm which copy you intend to continue before reconnecting or enabling automation.

Resolve a conflict

If two devices continue from different versions, inspect both. Open or download the versions for comparison. Choose the local work or the version you want to continue only after reviewing them.

MODO records the resolution and preserves the predecessors. It does not merge individual layers automatically. Disconnect and keep versions stops this connection while retaining the saved history.

Cloud sharing is snapshot exchange. For simultaneous editing and shared cursors, use team collaboration.
