Add text images and local fonts

These instructions are reviewed against the app source. Final-installer walkthroughs are still pending. Check platform availability and requirements before installing. Windows is an updates list, outside the 1,000 beta places.

Add an image from your computer and format text with a system font or a font file you already have. Imported project assets travel with a .modo copy.

Before you start

Open a local page on Primary. Have a PNG or JPEG ready; use an original sample image without personal information. A local font file is optional. Use only fonts you are allowed to embed in the output you intend to share.

Edit text

  1. Select a text layer in Layers. Double-click it on the canvas to edit its words, then click outside to finish.
  2. In Design, inspect Font, Weight, Size, and Colour. Start with System if you do not need a custom font.
  3. If a value is linked to a reusable style or token, decide whether to change that shared value or use Unlink for a local value. Editing a shared token can affect other layers.
  4. For paragraph text, use a Fixed or Fill width and Hug height. Check wrapping in the smaller frames.

Insert an image

  1. Open Assets, choose Media, and select Upload media. Choose your local image.
  2. Return to Layers and select the container where the image belongs. In Assets, click the image thumbnail to insert it.
  3. Inspect its position in Layers and its size in Design. Confirm that it sits inside the page frame rather than on the free canvas.
  4. Set Alternative text to a short description of the image's meaning, such as A blue notebook beside a pencil.

In this local workflow, Upload media imports the file into the project's asset storage; it does not publish it to a website.

Add a local font

In Assets → Fonts, choose Add font. Select your TTF, OTF, WOFF or WOFF2 files, provide the family and licence information, and confirm the embedding permission when appropriate. Include the weights and styles you need, then select the imported family on your text layer.

Check your result

The image appears inside the page, its alternative text is set, and the text uses the intended font and weight. Inspect Preview as well as the canvas.

Common problems

  • Import fails: read the reported format or size error and try a supported file.
  • A weight is missing: check which weights and styles you imported.
  • Deleting an asset warns about usage: review those uses first; removing a used asset can affect several layers.

Use the Google Fonts library

Open the font library from the font controls or Assets, search for a family and choose the styles you need. Download the required font files into the local project before relying on them offline. The catalog is not the same thing as having every font binary already installed.

Registered local files travel with the project subject to their embedding licence. Newly requested online fonts still need a connection; avoid relying on a temporary browser preview as proof that a font is ready offline.
